How Can You Give Back to The World Around You?

Everyone claims to want to do better and help the world, but often they do not know where they can start. Sure, they might separate their garbage into the proper bins. They might switch the lights and heating off when they don’t need it. They might even walk to work instead of driving, but there is still more to do.

If you want to know how you can give back better, then here are some ideas. Some are easy, some are a little more difficult, while others may not seem like giving back immediately, but they will be ultimately rewarding for you and anyone you engage with.

Learn About the Past
If you live near a care home such as assisted living Kirkland WA, then you can volunteer to chat with the residents and learn all about their lives while discovering more about the past. While many of these elderly residents will have family and friends who visit, not all of them will, and your company will be invaluable to them.

By hearing their stories, you can pass this knowledge on, and if you’ve got a flair for writing, you can even write them down, so they are surely never forgotten.

Pick Up Litter
Picking up litter during your daily walk to school or work is easy, and you’re not even expected to clear the streets and paths entirely. Just picking up ten pieces of litter during your day will help make your area more attractive, and you might even inspire others to follow suit.

On weekends, you can go a step further and visit local nature areas and remove any litter that’s found its way into the green.

Arrange Charity Food Drives
People living in poverty and struggling to eat a decent meal will always appreciate donated food, especially non-perishables such as tired or dehydrated food. The next time you’re at the supermarket, consider adding a few more items to your cart or even poke around your cupboards to find anything that is still in-date but also what you’re unlikely to eat anytime soon.

Encouraging your community to do the same could bring plenty of donations, and if it’s popular enough, you could make it a yearly occasion.

Shop More Consciously
Rather than sticking to the tried and tested method of big box stores or popular online retail services, think smaller. You don’t need to get everything from the supermarket, but instead, visit your local farmer’s market and see what fresh produce they have in stock for you.

You might find that this food, without any plastic packaging, is even better than what you’re used to, and because it’s locally sourced, you’re helping out those in your community, too.

Giving Back
We’ve taken and taken and taken from the world for far too long, and it’s evident that giving back is not as difficult as many people seem to think. If you’ve got some spare time over the next few months, why not try out some of these recommendations? Or, if you’ve got something else in mind, feel free to pursue that instead. It won’t matter what it is other than it’s something that will help put the world back in the right place.
