Different Types Of Books You Can Read With Your Child Over The Summer Vacation

Summer can be rough if you have a child to entertain for the entire break. However, the good news is that getting them reading can keep them busy for hours. With that in mind, check out all of the different types of books you may like to introduce your child to this summer.

Storybooks

Storybooks have to be one of the best kinds of books to read with your child this summer. After all, is there anything better than getting lost in a ripping yarn, and reading it together to the end?

The books you choose however will depend on your child’s age and maturity level as well as what their interests are. For example, some kids will be ready for the often dark young adult fiction like The Hunger Games, and even the classics such as The Lord of The Rings at a fairly young age. However, others will need more age-appropriate stories such as The House At The Edge Of Magic, and Nobody Likes A Goblin.

Biographies

While a good storybook can capture your child’s imagination, it can also be very inspired by real people and real events. That is why you might also like to try them out with some biographies.

It’s best to avoid the very long and verbose type here written in fine print. Instead, pick age-appropriate bios that introduce key historical figures to your child. For example, there is a great series called Little People, Big Dreams that covers all sorts of inspirational people such as Frida Khalo, Maya Angelou, and Marie Curie to name but a few.

Religious & Cultural Books

Even if you are not religious, providing your kids with an understanding of different belief systems and cultures is a wonderful way to help them grow as a person. The good news is there are lots of different types of books that can help you do this in an entertaining way.

One option is to provide your child with something like these Bible story books as they are a great way to introduce them to some of the ideas within Christianity. Then there is the beautifully illustrated Welcome to Our World: A Celebration of Children Everywhere! A book that covers a wide range of different cultures and religions. Another way to approach educating your child on other cultures and religions is through books like A Year Full of Celebrations and Festivals: Over 90 fun and fabulous festivals from around the world! This is because it allows your child to learn about how and what is celebrated all over the world as well as keeping them entertained this summer.

Picture Books

Last of all, if you want to keep your children entertained this summer, then investing in picture books is always a great option. Indeed, there are some great picture books for younger kids out there such as The Hungry Caterpillar, and The Kola that could.

However, picture books can also work well for older children and even teenagers too in the form of comics and graphic novels like The Last Kids on Earth, and the Miles Morales series. There are even inspirational books based on Manga characters now!
