Iceland Day 1: Hallgrimskirkja, Rainbow Street, & More

I’ve been on vacation in Iceland the past few days! We flew out Sunday night and with the time difference landed early Monday morning. Here’s a look at the highlights from day 1.

After getting in to Reykjavik from the airport, our first stop (after breakfast at the hotel – a food post to come later) was Hallgrimskirkja which is a famous church with incredible views of the city from the top. You can enter the church for free, but you do have to pay a fee to go up to the top. The statue in front of the church is of Lief Erikson.

Then I wanted to check out Penninn Eymundsson, which is a bookstore chain here in Iceland. There is a much larger one not far from the church which is supposed to be the largest one with 3 floors, but we came across this smaller one first so went in there. It was so cute and cozy and there was a cafe! I also spotted some of my favorite authors!

Then walked around that area a little more and saw the infamous Rainbow Street!

Next, we were all pretty tired from being up for pretty much 24 hours so we went back to the hotel to rest up for a couple hours. A few of us napped. I got a little bit of a second wind so I did some reading. And then we headed out by the harbor to take a few photos and then got dinner at a really good bistro (again, food post coming later!)

The last photo was taken around 8pm. In Iceland the sun never really fully sets in the summer so the hotel rooms have blackout curtains!

So that was day 1! More on the trip coming! You can always follow my Instagram for my current updates!
