Book Review: Right Man, Right Time

I finished the third book in the Vancouver Agitators series, Right Man, Right Time, by Meghan Quinn earlier this week.

The novel follows Silas Taters and Oliana “Olllie” Owens. We met Silas in the first two books in the series – Kiss & Don’t Tell and Those Three Little Words. From the previous books we know that Silas and his high school sweetheart broke up and he’s been working through his heartbreak since book 1. He’s never told his best friends the reason for the breakup, but they know it was not good. Silas has finally moved on when he finds out that his ex, Sarah, is now working for the Agitators in the marketing department.

Ollie is a college senior and journalism major. When out at a bar with her best friend, Ross, she finds out what her next writing assignment will be and will determine if she gets credit for her internship. She is assigned to write an article about hockey – a sport she knows nothing about. While complaining about her assignment, she runs in to her nemesis and finds out that her enemy is the one who got to assign topics to the interns. Not only that, but her nemesis is now dating Ollie’s ex! In a panic, she tells them that she has a boyfriend too and he’s at the bar. She goes up to Silas and kisses him.

The impromptu kiss leads the two to realize they could both benefit from a fake dating arrangement. Ollie has a famous boyfriend to rub in her ex and enemy’s faces and he cal teach her about hockey for her assignment. Silas has a girlfriend to take with him to various work functions to get his best friends off his back and keep his ex away.

Can the two keep it strictly fake?

This was a fun, fake dating, age gap sports romance. I really liked Silas and Ollie and the tension between the two of them was so good. The one critique I have for this novel is that I don’t think their 10 year age gap really makes sense here. Well, it makes sense, but aspects of it don’t seem believable. For example, I don’t see why Silas would spend so much time at Ollie’s dorm instead of her going to his place. It just seems odd since he has to put on a disguise to get into her building when they could go to his more spacious and luxurious apartment. This is really minor of course and I still really enjoyed the book!

Read this if you want a spicy sports romcom with the fake dating and age gap tropes.
