Choose the theme wisely

When you’re doing a themed birthday party for a work colleague, it’s good to be aware of what theme works best for the person in question. It might be relative to their favorite hobby. Or perhaps it’s something that you know about them that could add a personal touch to the theme?

A theme based around the person’s personality, or something that signifies a period of time gone by, such as a 50th or 60 birthday party is a worthwhile suggestion.

You also want the theme to be easy enough to dress up for so that other work colleagues feel comfortable wearing too.

Create your guest list

A guest list is the next step when figuring out the size birthday party you intend to have. The person you’re planning it for may have mentioned to only invite their own department or they may want to open up to the entire workforce.

Be sure of your guest list from the beginning as that will help if you need to go outside of your work premises in order to find a venue.

Decide on a venue

Talking of venues, the next step is finding one. If your work premises aren’t big enough for the party size, then finding a venue will likely be the next step in the process.

Think about what size the venue needs to be and what type of venue it should be depending on the theme of the birthday party and what suppliers you might want to bring there. For example, if you had a DJ and dancefloor booked, you’re going to need space for that to fit in. If you want to hire an event photographer then you might want to think about what lighting the venue has.

Choose your entertainment

Entertainment is a crucial one, especially when you have a large number of guests to look after. When choosing your entertainment, think about what type of entertainment will be suitable for the guests and the type of guests you have – like whether they’re from the corporate or creative world for example.

For example, a magician might be a great choice. You may find that a band is most suited for a birthday party.

Make sure you’ve got plenty of food and drink on offer

Finally, make sure that you’ve thought about providing plenty of food and drink when throwing a memorable bash. This is particularly the case if you have guests there for longer than just one or two hours. Feeding them is a great way to keep them there longer!

These tips will ensure you throw the best party for your work colleague this year.
