Book Review: The Book of Azrael
The Gods & Monsters series by Amber V. Nicole has been on my tbr for a while. I think it’s better known for the title of the first book in the series, The Book of Azrael. I read it this past week and I loved it!

The novel follows Dianna Martinez and Samkiel. This fantasy romance takes place in the modern world with cell phones and computers etc. but all the magical and mythical beings have been around for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Dianna sacrificed her life thousands of years ago to the powerful, Kaden, in order to save her dying sister. He turned her into a Ig’Morruthen, which made her immortal and her Ig’Morruthen form is sort of like a dragon. She has done his bidding for thousands of years in order to keep her sister safe. But now, Kaden, is looking for a rumored ancient text called the Book of Azrael.
Samkiel, or Liam as he now goes by, is a God King and known as the World Ender. After the Gods War thousands of years ago, he’s been living in seclusion in the ruins of his home world, leaving his closest and trusted soldiers/friends called The Hand, to oversee things for him. But when he learns that a danger is growing he must come out of hiding and fight to save what’s left of the worlds and those he cares about.
This book gave me Crescent City vibes in the best way with its modern world setting and badass fmc. I was hooked from beginning to end. Samkiel’s introduction to the modern world was really funny and I loved the slow burn enemies to lovers vibe between him and Dianna. I also love all of Samkiel’s friends in The Hand that we’ve gotten to know so far and hope nothing bad happens to them. The ending was crazy and heartbreaking and I can’t wait to start the next book!
Read this if you want a spicy fantasy romance with the enemies to lovers trope.
