First Lines of Books Part 4
I was looking back to see when the last time I did one of these “first lines of books” posts and it was a year ago! Since then I’ve compiled a list of 10 books I enjoyed that had first lines that were memorable or would hook most people right away.

- Deep End by Ali Hazelwood – “It all starts when Penelope Ross leans in over the restaurant’s solid wooden table, lifts her index finger, and declares, ‘Tenth circle of hell: you find the love of your life, but the sex is intensely meh.”
- Bridesmaid Undercover by Meghan Quinn – “My penis feels phenomenal.”
- Under Loch & Key by Lana Ferguson – “I never imagined that my death would come by way of a sheep avalanche, but as I watch the rumbling mass of floof barreling down the hill toward the stretch of road I am currently stalled on – it occurs to me that it would at least be a memorable way to go.”
- First-Time Caller by B.K. Borison – “Love is a Lie.”
- The Fiancé Dilemma by Elena Armas – “”The day you pick up the phone and a complete stranger says, ‘I’m your father,’ you know your life is about to change.”
- Scythe & Sparrow by Brynne Weaver – “If you hit someone in the back of the head hard enough, you can pop their eyeballs right out of their face.”
- King of Envy by Ana Huang – “Congratulations. Half the people here want to kill you, and the other half want to be you.”
- The Charlie Method by Elle Kennedy – “Never hook up in cars with football players.”
- The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren – “The day my husband moves out of our apartment is also the day Resident Evil Village releases for PlayStation, and you might be surprised which of these things lands with a greater emotional impact.”
- Voyage of the Damned by Frances White – “My father always says: ‘You can’t run from your responsibilities,’ but he lacks imaginations.”
Did any of these first lines stick out to you? Have you read any of these books?
