Book Review: Mr. Fixer Upper
Last Christmas I read The Christmas Fix by Lucy Score and loved it. It was one of my favorite Christmas reads ever. But when I read it, I didn’t know beforehand that it’s actually a spin-off to her earlier book, Mr. Fixer Upper. They are interconnected standalones, so I didn’t have to read Mr. Fixer Upper first, but when I read that one there were appearances by Cat’s brother, Gannon, and his wife Paige so when I found out Mr. Fixer Upper was their story I had to add it to my tbr!

The novel follows Paige St. James and Gannon King. Paige is a field producer for a popular renovation show starring Gannon and his twin sister, Catalina or Cat. Their family owns and operate a construction business in New York City and this is their second season filming the show. At the start of the novel we learn the 2nd season is about to start filming. While Paige and Cat became good friends during season 1, she and Gannon did not exactly get along. He’s a little grouchy and doesn’t make things easy for Paige. And he thinks she’s just another soulless worker for the network. But it’s a new season and they both want the show to continue to be a success. Paige needs the money so she can pursue her dream of making a documentary. Gannon knows the success of the show has made it possible to keep his family business going. As they both actually try to get to know each other better this season they realize they may have both misunderstood each other. As feelings develop, questions arise about whether it’s a good idea for them to be together. Getting together with the talent/star of the show could derail Paige’s career – making people dismiss all her hard work and think she “slept” her way to the top. Is Paige willing to risk her career or will she follow her heart no matter what people say/think about her.
I loved this book so much! I am kicking myself that I didn’t read it sooner because it was so good. I absolutely loved Paige and Gannon. Their chemistry was so good. I loved the storyline and Gannon was definitely swoon worthy. Top tier book boyfriend for sure. I also loved how realistic the book was and the commentary on the double standards for women was sadly so real.
I loved Paige and Gannon so much that it made me go back to The Christmas Fix to reread the parts with them in it!
Read this if you want a spicy romcom with the enemies to lovers, grumpy sunshine, and workplace romance tropes.
