Book Review: Mistakes Were Made
I’m a big Lucy Score fan and last week I read her latest, Mistakes Were Made, the second book in the Story Lake series.

The novel follows Gage Bishop (youngest brother to Cam and Levi) and Zoey Moody (Hazel’s best friend who came with her to Story Lake in Story of My Life). Gage is a lawyer in the small town of Story Lake and also works for his family’s construction business on the side. Zoey is Hazel’s best friend since childhood and also her literary agent. Gage is organized, responsible, and steady. Zoey is fun, chaotic, and not always the best at adulting. They could not be more opposite, but they are very attracted to each other. However, Gage is looking to settle down soon and wants a serious relationship and Zoey has no interest in a relationship and wants something casual. Will one of them give in? Will they compromise? Or will they just stay friends? Meanwhile, Gage struggles to help his sister with a case he has strong feelings about and Zoey works tirelessly to make sure Hazel’s book launch goes off without a hitch because she needs a win after she and Hazel left their old agency.
I loved this book. Gage and Zoey are so different, but are exactly what the other needs. Zoey needs stability in her life and someone to take care of her after her upbringing and Gage needs someone to get him to loosen up and enjoy life. They were so fun to follow and I loved how much Zoey did not want to love Story Lake and then ended up being so enmeshed in the town and community.
There is a third act breakup and I’m not the biggest fan of this, but I think it was done well in this novel and worked for the storyline. I can’t wait to see more of them in the next book and I really want to see who Levi’s love interest is going to be!
