Every Year After

I loved Carley Fortune’s Every Summer After when I read it a few years ago. I remember thinking it was similar to Love & Other Words, but still different enough that I loved it. And then when One Golden Summer came out about Charlie, I loved that too. So when it was announced that they were making Every Summer After into a tv series I was excited. And then when Off Campus was such a hit, I was excited that Every Year After (the title they changed the book to for the show) was also a Prime show so I had high hopes. And then I saw tons of people posting on social media immediately after the premiere and the majority of the posts I was seeing from fellow readers all said the show was disappointing and that they changed way too much from the books including key elements of the plot and characters. So needless to say I’ve been scared to watch it. But I just started and watched the first episode last night.

While I haven’t watched more than 1 episode so far so I can’t say if I’m going to end up liking or absolutely hating the show, but I don’t see myself loving it. I wasn’t hooked after the first episode and some changes to the story are already evident in just this first episode. And from what I’ve heard other major changes are coming in the next episodes and all that changes I heard about are ones that no one likes (myself included) and no one wanted. I don’t think the acting is that great so far and Percy doesn’t seem that likable which is a problem for the star of the show.

Will I watch the rest of the show? I’ll definitely watch the second episode before I decide whether to stop or continue, but the first episode didn’t leave me excited to continue so who knows when I’ll watch.

Have you watched the show? If you have did you like it and did you read the book?
