Book Review: Unlucky Like Us

Earlier this week I read the 12th book in the Like Us series by Krista & Becca Ritchie – Unlucky Like Us. This is the 2nd out of 3 books focusing on Luna Hale and Paul Donnelly and I continued to love them both.

As mentioned above, this is a continuation of the love story between Paul and Luna. Their feelings for one another are just growing deeper and deeper and the feel like actually being together is so close, yet so far away. After keeping their feelings for one another secret from their loved ones for most of Misfits Like Us, Luna’s father, Loren, is still not the biggest fan of the two of them being together, but knows they really love each other. He is starting to warm up to the idea of them together and not hate Donnelly as much, but he told them at the end of the previous book that they couldn’t be together until Donnelly’s family wasn’t a threat anymore. Donnelly’s family is bad news with most of them involved with drugs and involved with illegal activities as well as being in and out of jail. His family has already tried to mess with him, blackmail him, etc. Just when Luna and Donnelly start to feel hopeful and decide they don’t want to wait to be together, Luna and her mother are attacked and Luna is kidnapped by his relatives. Donnelly puts his life on the line to save Luna, but the repercussions are immense. His family might suspect that he led the police to them and the even greater consequence of the abduction is Luna’s head trauma. Donnelly saves her, but she doesn’t remember the last 3 years!

I loved this book. It was a rollercoaster of emotions with highs of lows. I love how perfect Donnelly and Luna are together. How they both feel like misfits, love sci-fi and fantasy, are artistic, and just get each other. But it was heartbreaking seeing their suffering and Luna lose her memories of Donnelly. I know they are end game but I hope things are smoother for them in the next book – the last book of this series!
