Christmas Garland
I’ve always wanted garland with lights around my house so when I moved in to my townhouse and had a good amount of visible bannister I knew I had the perfect opportunity. The lighted garland that I saw at Costco required an outlet so that didn’t work for me, but I found strings of tiny LED lights in the same aisle that are battery operated. So I decided to get that and then buy regular garland and combine the two. Then, I went to Michael’s and guys, garland is expensive! Originally I wanted the kind of garland that looks like real fir or pine or whatever you call it, but…

Photo Challenge: Serene
We made it to Friday! Now that it’s well and truly the holiday season I thought this photo below would be a great photo response to the challenge, “Serene“. I took this photo a few years ago in New York City during my annual outing to see the tree at Rockefeller Center. If you’ve ever been there you’ll know just how insanely crowded it is in that area since everyone wants to see the tree and the Saks light show across the street. But, if you venture a little further away from the tree you can find some quieter streets and it’s actually pretty serene or as serene as a…

Christmas at Longwood Gardens
I hope everyone has gotten a good start to 2017! I was supposed to be back at work today, but on Thursday we found out that the school decided to give us the day off (since the holiday is observed today) so school resumes tomorrow. It’s going to be tough going back to work after so much time off, but having yesterday off was a great gift so hopefully this is a sign of good things to come in the new year! Anyway, although we’re past the holidays now I have one last holiday post for you! Over the summer I shared my afternoon at Longwood Gardens wandering the beautiful gardens.…

Hugs for Brady Holiday Light Show
Christmas may be over but I’m not done posting about it! Hugs for Brady is a non-profit foundation that helps children with cancer. They have a holiday light show going on so I really wanted to go because 1) I love Christmas lights and 2) It’s for a good cause. It took me 2 weeks due to bad weather, being sick, etc., but I finally got there just a few days before Christmas! It was super cold out – my hands felt frozen, but it was pretty. I thought it would be a lot bigger and more elaborate than it actually was. The pictures on the website made it seem that…

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas! I hope all of you who celebrate had a fabulous Christmas Eve and are enjoying your Christmas day. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do for this post, so I decided to take some close up pictures of Christmas lights last night. Well, Christmas lights and one of a Christmas tee next to some lights. Enjoy! I mentioned this in a post the other day, but I feel like Christmas – especially Christmas day – comes and goes so quickly which makes me a little sad. If you feel the same way, then don’t fret because I have a few more holiday posts coming your way in the…

Photo Challenge: Relax
After today I just have 1 week of work left until winter break and I could not be more ready for it! This past week’s photo challenge from The Daily Post was “Relax” and while I try to always find some time over the weekend to relax, I can’t wait to get some extra holiday relaxing time coming up! Last weekend, I was doing one of my favorite things to relax this time of year – snuggled on my couch with a blanket, Christmas lights on, and my phone nearby of course so I could aimlessly scroll through social media during commercials of Hallmark Channel Christmas movies. When I looked down…

Holiday in the Park
This holiday season the Six Flags by me (Six Flags Great Adventure) opened for “Holiday in the Park”. Normally, the park closes after their Fright Fest days for Halloween and reopens in the spring. As soon as I heard that they were going to be open for the holiday season and that the park would be “transformed into a winter wonderland with over a million twinkling lights” I knew I had to go! Contrary to Christmas day, it was actually pretty chilly out yesterday. It was the strangest thing going on roller coasters in the cold weather! Fair warning, this is a picture heavy post. I went a little click…

Photo Challenge: Transition
Most of us have already transitioned from fall decor to winter or Christmas. Many of us have also seen the transition between seasons already take place. So when The Daily Post posted their latest photo challenge, “Transition”, ideas probably wouldn’t have come to mind immediately for me had it not been the week post Thanksgiving. Like many people who celebrate Christmas in the US, Christmas decorating begins promptly after Thanksgiving. My family always puts up the tree, lights, and other decorations the day after Thanksgiving weather permitting. Swapping out fall decorations for Christmas ones was the perfect “Transition” photo challenge response for me. My DIY acorns went away and down came…

Photo Challenge: Converge
For the latest Daily Post Photo Challenge, I decided to interpret Converge as a meeting of opposites. Christmas time is my favorite and Christmas decorations are at the top of my list of reasons why. I absolutely adore Christmas lights, both inside and outside the house. They just make me happy! This year I strung up some lights around the fireplace in my house. Christmas lights, especially these small white lights give me the feeling of light and happy. They’re pretty and ethereal-like. The fireplace, which is made of brick, is a place of heat, structure, sturdiness. They are quite opposite, but when put together or when they converge they go together really nicely.
