Hong Kong Wandering
Today’s travel post about my trip to Hong Kong is a bit different because on this particular day there wasn’t anything in particular we had planned to do or see. We just walked around, ate at multiple stops, shopped a little, and tried to avoid the rain. It was a slower paced day, which was nice since we’d been going nonstop for so much of the 2 week vacation. We started out the day in Causeway Bay for a really good lunch at Pepper Lunch – a chain at a food court – and then did some more shopping before heading over to Wan Chai for freshly made chips and…

Central, Symphony of Lights, & Victoria Peak
I’m now back in the States and writing from New Jersey! I had a great 2 weeks in Japan and Hong Kong. Luckily, I still have a few travel posts to write up so I can relive vacation and forget that I’m going to work on Monday. On Sunday, the day started off a little cloudy with some on/off rain. We took the MTR over to the Central District for a dim sum lunch with family in one of the Exchange Square buildings. After trying to get there early so we could walk around the big mall next door and being unsuccessful, we had a delicious lunch which I’ll show…

Rainy Hong Kong Day + Lei Yue Mun
Saturday was another on/off rainy day in Hong Kong, but we didn’t let that slow us down. As mentioned in previous posts, Hong Kong is made up of different islands. We took a taxi to Lei Yue Mun, which I knew was across the harbor since we took a tunnel there, but I wasn’t sure exactly where it was. My dad said something to me about being by an inlet, but I looked it up on Google and learned that it’s a short channel separating Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. It’s also a fishing village, which I knew since we were going there specifically for a seafood lunch. While there…

Hong Kong Tram + Lantau Island
Friday was my first full day in Hong Kong and as mentioned in yesterday’s post my family is from here, but this is my first time visiting. If you don’t know, Hong Kong is made up of many little islands and a few bigger ones. I’m staying on Hong Kong Island, where my parents were born and my dad grew up (my mom moved to the States when she was very young). So Friday, we booked a half day tour to Lantau Island – one of the islands of Hong Kong – so that we could go to the Po Lin Monastery where the big Buddha is. Obviously, I had…

Japan –> Hong Kong
On Thursday, I woke up at 4:30am and got ready to get picked up for the airport. I flew from Tokyo to Hong Kong in about 3-4 hours. Once through security, my family and I did some duty free shopping, got some food in the ANA lounge, and relaxed a bit before our flight. The flight was delayed due to the bad weather from the typhoon, but luckily it was only delayed an hour. The flight was pretty comfortable and didn’t feel that long. Definitely not as long as my initial flight from New Jersey to Tokyo and not as long as my flight home from Hong Kong is going…

Last Day in Japan
I’m almost halfway through my trip to Hong Kong and I’m just getting to writing about my last day in Japan! As mentioned yesterday, my last day in Japan was pretty rainy. A typhoon was headed in the direction of Tokyo so most of Saturday was pretty wet. The hotel lent out umbrellas to guests and I also bought a $5 rain jacket in the convenience store. The jacket is actually really well made and a thick plastic so it’s reuseable. It has a hood and buttons up! It really did the trick on my last day in Japan and I’ve used it in Hong Kong too! Best $5 ever!…
