Origin French Thai

This post is long overdue, but I’m just getting the time/opportunity to write it. Back in August my friends had a joint birthday outing which included dinner at Origin – French Thai, a french thai fusion restaurant. It was my first time at the restaurant, though I’ve known and heard about it for years. I think the one time I had tried to go there it was on the one day a week they’re closed.

This photo, courtesy of the Origin website, gives you an idea of the cute area the restaurant is located in in downtown Somerville, NJ. It sits on a side “street” that is closed off to traffic so the restaurants can have spacious outdoor “sidewalk” seating. It reminds me a lot of Europe.

For a starter, my friend and I split the Escargot which was so delicious. The escargot was baked in garlic butter and was a stellar appetizer choice.

For my entree I chose the Sukothai Curry. The dish consisted of homemade red curry with coconut milk, asian eggplant, and bamboo shoots with your choice of protein (I chose chicken). It came with a generous portion of rice as well. The flavors were great and the vegetables weren’t overcooked. It was filling and yummy!

For dessert, we all shared a few different dishes with my favorite being the Mango Sticky Rice – a popular Thai dessert. I forgot to take a picture of it, but ordering it that night reminded me of how much I love it and got me on a mango sticky rice kick. I made it at home the following week and have made it a few times since then! It made it into my August Favorites. I promise I will get around to sharing that recipe on here sooner or later!

Overall, I really enjoyed my experience at Origin and I plan to go back!
