Last night was the annual Met Gala or Met Ball. I’ve said before that it is a dream of mine to attend New York Fashion Week (or any official Fashion Week show in any city for that matter!), but another dream is to attend the Met Gala. For those of you who don’t know, the Met Gala is an annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. I’ve seen tweets all day today comparing this event to the “Super Bowl of Fashion”.
The Met Gala is known to be an event where attendees, mostly celebrities, dress in much more artsy, avante garde pieces than the standard red carpet. Last night was no exception with a red carpet filled with intricate head pieces (a la Sarah Jessica Parker) and lots of interesting (for lack of a better word) prints such as cranes on Dianna Agron’s gown.
Here are the looks I liked the most!
Katie Holmes in Zac Posen. When I first saw this dress, in another picture, I thought it was pretty but nothing special. Then, I saw this picture and realized that the entire dress sparkles and I knew it had to be on my list!
Lizzy Kaplan in Donna Karan Atelier. I’m really drawn to this one-shoulder draped gown for some reason. I love the embroidered details and the beaded pleats.
Emily Ratajkowski in Custom Topshop. I love this asian inspired print and neckline. Definitely a bold print without being too out there, which is much more in keeping with my taste. I admire the women who feel confident donning the more avante garde pieces, but they’re not really for me.
Vanessa Hudgens looks fresh in this red, bejeweled tea-length strapless gown. I also love her netted veil for a retro feel. I saw at least one other netted veil (Lily Collins) so it must be a growing trend!
Sofia Vergara in Marchesa. I had to throw in a a more classic gown in the mix. I love the sweetheart neckline, and the romantic feel of the whole gown.
Kendall Jenner in Calvin Klein Collection. I absolutely love this gown. The beading or sequins throughout the gown, the jade color, the cut – it all looks like perfection to me. I have no idea what the back looks like, but the sides are exposed with criss-cross lacing. It’s a bit too much side-boob for me, but I love this gown so much that I’m willing to overlook that!
Of the looks I saw, these were my top picks. I’d love to hear your thoughts on these dresses and/or others that you liked/disliked!
