YSL Covetable Couture Beauty Icons

Oh Monday. It’s the first day back to work for me after my winter break off. You know that feeling you get when you’re just so ecstatic to wake up early and head to work after a nice break? No? Me either. To brighten up my day a bit though I’m here to tell you about this Yves Saint Laurent Covetable Couture Beauty Icons kit that I got as a Sephora Beauty Insider points perk.

I’ve never tried anything YSL before and when I saw that I had enough points to redeem this kit of mini sized products I had to grab it so I could give these popular items a try.

First up, a trial size of the perfume, Black Opium. I didn’t wear this because I have too many perfumes open at the moment, but from what I could sniff it smells nice. It has notes of Coffee Accord, Orange Blossom, Cedarwood Essence, and Patchouli Essense.

Next up, the very popular Volupte Tint-In-Oil. I’ve heard about this lip product for a while and I never really knew what it was exactly. I’m still a little unsure of what it is exactly, but from what I understand is that it’s a lip oil with a tint. So it is a lip tint that offers deep hydration to your lips because it is made up of four essential oils: apricot kernal oil, coriander fruit oil, jojoba seed oil, and possiflora edulis seed oil.

Next is something I’ve recently been hearing some YouTubers talk about – the Touche Eclat Blue Primer. It’s hard to see in this picture but it is a translucent product with a yellow tinge to it and has gold specks.

The last product in the kit is the Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils. I always love trying new mascaras.

So now onto what I thought about each product!

The Touche Eclat Blur Primer – I was really excited to try this primer out. I had heard a few YouTubers rave about it and the gold specks inside just look so pretty! This primer is definitely not something I’m used to. I’m used to primers that are of a silicone texture or cream. This is like a serum so it was definitely something new for me. This primer is supposed to blur imperfections and boost radiance of foundation. I’ve only used it once so far so I can’t give a real review yet. It felt nice on the skin, but I didn’t really notice my face looking extraordinary or anything! The product is quite expensive for a primer at $52 for the full size and in my first try it wasn’t a total “wow” so we’ll have to see how I like it with further uses.

There are a few different version of Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils and I think this sample is just a general version. It felt very lightweight, not wet, and very natural looking. A nice mascara, but nothing revolutionary.

The Volupte Tint-In-Oil applies like an oil, of course, but also like a stain. What I mean by that is that you have to apply the oil all over your lips with the applicator because it won’t spread by blotting your lips together. At first glance the color is very bright, but upon closer examination the applicator is a sponge soaked in the tinted oil. It is not like a normal lip gloss wand that is covered in a creamy product. The applicator is actually soaked. The color is not that bright on the lips since it is just a tint. As it warms up on the lips it does get darker, but this shade that was provided in the kit gives a medium natural pink stain to the lips. It is really comfortable to wear too!

So those were my first impressions of the YSL covetable items! In short, I didn’t wear the perfume but it seems like something I would really enjoy so I may end up getting that in the future once I try it out. I’m undecided about the primer. It is beautiful but I’ll need to use it more to see if it’s worth the hefty price tag for a primer. The mascara was just okay so I don’t see myself buying a full size. And the Volupte Tint-In-Oil gets a big thumbs up from me! I would definitely purchase this in a full size and try out other shades.
