Met Gala 2016
Last night was the annual Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I guess my invitation must have gotten lost in the mail! 😉
This year’s gala theme was “Manus x Machina: Fashion in the Age of Technology” so many of the attendees wore metallics, metal studs, and other things associated with a futuristic feel. Futuristic style isn’t normally my cup of tea, but I think that’s only if it’s too out there. I have picked out a handful (ok, more like a dozen or so) looks that stood out to me and that I truly loved seeing.

I’m a big fan of actress Chloe Grace Moretz and I think she’s a gorgeous young woman. This Coach dress has just the right amount of “future” in my opinion with the sequin accents in the deep-v and metallic sequins on the pleats.

Sarah Jessica Parker departed from the metallic look that was so popular and went for this white ensemble in Monse (save for the bright blue and gold heels) with the cropped pants, top, and overcoat with gold buttons and cameo necklace. I saw a few articles online about how her outfit was Hamilton inspired which when you think about it should look vintage inspired, but she turns it into a futuristic look because I can see it being sort of futuristic military inspired fashion.

Karolina Kurkova stunned in this sheer hi-lo Marchesa gown with floral appliques and at first glance you might think there’s nothing future/technology inspired about this dress, but there are actually LED lights on it! You can just make out one of the lights on the right in green. I wish I could find a picture of it where the dress is more prominently lit up. If any of you know where to find one, please let me know in the comments below!

Sienna Miller looks like a gorgeous disco ball in this Gucci gown. She keeps it feminine with the large bow at the bust and the sparse colored sequins throughout keeps the look from being monotone.

Kendall Jenner was my hands down favorite look at last year’s Met Gala in her green Calvin Klein gown with the side cut-outs. This year is not quite as good as her look last year, but I still love the silhouette of her Atelier Versace gown and the mosaic detailing. Seriously, who else could pull off a dress like that?!

I was on the fence about whether to include this Topshop gown Kate Upton wore because it doesn’t really look like it was worn specific to the theme, but ultimately I chose to include it because it is a beautiful gown with metal studs throughout the entire dress. The shoulder cutout and one sleeve is a nice detail. I wonder if this dress is heavy?

Kate Mara’s dress is not the most beautiful of the night, honestly, but I chose it because the sheer circle and diamond shiny material really makes me think of the future and the minidress look was not seen much on this red carpet so it really stood out for me.

Kylie Jenner looks drop dead gorgeous in this Balmain creation. I had to include front and side views of this silver, beaded gown with sheer cutouts and sheer paneling on the sides. Her gown looks like the future meets the 1920s art deco period. This was probably my favorite gown of the night and she definitely beat big sister Kim on the red carpet last night in my opinion!

Hailee Steinfeld played it safer with this emerald green H&M gown with triangle side cutouts. I love that the top and bottom are different materials and textures and is offset by the darker shade of green ribbon breaking up the two.

I love Alexa Chung’s Thakoon shimmering pantsuit. It looks like so much fun and not to mention comfortable!

So Rosie Huntington-Whiteley‘s white gown by Ralph Lauren Collection does not exactly scream “fashion in the in the age of technology” but I have to give her props for this beautiful white gown that fits her like a glove.

I cannot get over how beautiful Zoe Saldana‘s gown was. The artistic detail involved in this Dolce & Gabbana ballgown is phenomenal and you need to see the picture below that captures the whole train. It is to die for.
The detail of all the colors and textures on this train is breathtaking. I have no words except that it is absolutely stunning.
And last minute addition to my list – Claire Danes! When I first saw this dress, I didn’t choose it because while it’s pretty I didn’t see anything particularly special about this Zac Posen gown. But then I found out that it glows. in. the. dark.!!!

So Kylie Jenner wins for best beaded/metallic dress, Zoe Saldana wins for overall most gorgeous dress, and Claire Danes for most magical!
