July 2016 Favorites

Is it really going to be August tomorrow? I’m not ready for summer to begin to wind down!

I have a few favorites to share with you from July and many of them are from my vacation to Alaska. Part 1 and Part 2 of my trip are on YouTube now which you can find here and here. Part 3 will be up in a couple of days!

Let’s get started!

First up, Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick Eye Palette in “Raw Sugar” was the perfect eye shadow to bring with me on vacation. It was great for every day wear with its neutral colors but also had some shimmer to them which worked for nighttime. It is also so small and compact that it was ideal for my 4 days on land before the cruise as we had to separate our bags. Our big suitcases went ahead to the ship so all I had with me for the 4 days was a duffle bag so the less items I needed the better.

In my Alaska Lookbook post about what I wore to the dinners on the cruise ship, I spoke about how this triangle necklace really dressed this look up and was the saving piece to this outfit that I threw together in less than 5 minutes since I was running late.

This dessert from the cruise was the best dessert I’ve ever had! I wrote in more detail about it in this post here. It was basically a chocolate and pistachio creme dome. Seriously, the most delicious dessert of all time.

My last favorite from the cruise is Dramamine. Overall, the cruise was very smooth sailing but there were two instances that the sea was rocky so these sea sick pills definitely helped me out. These are the original formula so they made me super drowsy. Luckily one of the times I needed to take it, it was late at night so I passed out shortly after taking a pill and woke up to calm seas and feeling incredibly refreshed.

Back to dessert for a second. For the past 2 weeks I have been on a serious butter pecan ice cream kick. I don’t know why. I guess I was craving it since vacation because I wanted butter pecan at one of the lodges but they ran out so I had it in the back of my mind since then. Then, last week I went to the supermarket and saw it in the ice cream aisle. Of course, I bought a carton and I’ve been indulging in it ever since.

My favorite song for the month is going to be a remake of a classic. The song is “You Don’t Own Me” by Grace featuring G-Eazy. If you don’t know, the original is by Lesley Gore from 1963 and I first came to love the song back in the 90s when it was featured heavily in the movie The First Wives Club. Anyone else love that movie?! Anyway this remake is pretty good and reminds me of how much I used to love the original song.

The funniest thing I’ve seen on TV this week is the Jinx Challenge that Jimmy Fallon & Margot Robbie did together on The Tonight Show. It is laugh out loud funny!
