What I’m Watching

If you know me, you know I watch my fair share of TV. I DVR more shows that I can count as well as watch shows on Netflix and the like. I thought I’d share a few shows I’m currently watching a lot of that I haven’t really talked about on here yet.

  1. Peaky Blinders – I’m obsessed with this British gangster drama. I know I’m late to the party, but I just started watching it earlier this winter. There are only 3 seasons out and I’m a few episodes short of finishing the available episodes but I’ve put off finishing it because I heard the next season won’t be out until the end of the year which is so far away! So I’m not in a rush to finish season 3 – sort of savoring it. Anyway, if you don’t know what it’s about it stars Cillian Murphy as the head of his family and Birmingham gang The Peaky Blinders in the 1920s. I looked it up and The Peaky Blinders were a real gang in Birmingham back in that time period and they were called that because they hid razors in the peaks of their caps, which is seen in fight scenes of the show when they take their hats off and slice away at people! The show is so good and it’s made me really love Cillian Murphy.

2. Riverdale – I had heard about this new CW show but didn’t watch when it first began (to be fair there have only been like 5 episodes so far) until my cousin texted me saying it was really good and I had to watch it so she could talk to me about it. I caught up and was hooked. It follows a modern day Archie from Archie Comics in Riverdale and the comic book gang is all there like Betty, Veronica, and Jughead. Now I never read the comics, the most I knew about Archie was the names of the characters and that there was a love triangle sort of thing with Archie, Betty, & Veronica. But you really don’t need to know anything about the comics since it’s a modern (and dark) take on the story. I’ve heard it compared to Gossip Girl and I can see that in that it’s filled with drama and the characters are in high school, but it’s actually much darker than Gossip Girl. I’ve also heard it compared to Pretty Little Liars. I’ve never watched that, but Riverdale does have a murder take place which is a big mystery so maybe it is like PLL. It’s got teenage drama but also is dark and even the cinematography is dark. Just look at the promo shot below and you can already tell! I love shows with lots of twists so this show has definitely intrigued me.

3. Emerald City  – When I saw the promos for this show on NBC I really wanted to see it and then it kept slipping my mind to record it. Finally, I started to catch up by watching it on Demand and it’s pretty interesting and definitely the kind of show I like with it’s magical/fantasy elements. Emerald City is a modern day spin on The Wizard of Oz. Dorothy is a modern day nurse when she gets transported to another world through a tornado a la The Wizard of Oz. It’s a new take on the classic story. I haven’t caught up on all the episodes yet, but I’m really liking it so far.

4. The last show I’ve been watching a lot of lately is Fuller House – Season 2. I wrote about season 1 in this post here. This was released on Netflix back in December, but I just got around to watching it. I haven’t finished the season yet, but I love the nostalgia. Aside from the cheesy jokes, it’s fun to be back in the Tanner/Fuller world and I love the clothes on it!

Those are the new things I’ve been watching lately. All the shows I wrote about in my new fall TV post are still well-loved by me. The season of Timeless just ended last week or the week before and no word yet on season 2 but I’ve got my fingers crossed!

Have any of you been watching anything new?

  1. I was wondering how Emerald City was, it sounded interesting. My new show that comes back on Next week is Underground :). I’m liking it so far, its a bit controversial as some feel that it romanticizes slavery but, I believe that these stories could happen to someone back in those times. I’ve started watching Chicago Justice (from the chicago series) It’s no law&order svu but I like it :).
