December 2020 Favorites

I think we can all agree that we’re ready for 2020 to end. It was like one bad thing after another. At times the year felt like it was flying by – especially this past month. I don’t know how December went by so fast. Other times, it crawled by like the spring months when we first went into lock down and quarantine.

I’m going to talk more about the past year and intentions for 2021 in a post tomorrow so for today I’m going to talk about the things I loved in December plus an exciting gift to myself.

First, I always look forward to a chocolate advent calendar in December and my mom bought me another Lindt one this year. I read somewhere online that if you buy an advent calendar now on sale you can count down the days until inauguration with I think is genius!

Next up is this lemon almond biscotti. I ate so many of these in the past 2 months. They’re so good. My aunt picks them up from a bakery at Grand Central Station. I need to try to find a recipe to make them myself.

Another favorite of mine this month were my Christmas cards. I loved how they turned out.

Jimmy Fallon and Andrew Rannells made a 2020 The Musical for the Tonight Show and it’s so funny. It’s a montage of hit songs from various Broadway shows with the lyrics changed to fit 2020.

In 2020 Taylor Swift didn’t just come out with 1 surprise album, but 2! Evermore dropped unexpectedly earlier in the month and I love it.

Another entertainment favorite of mine this month was Dash & Lily on Netflix. I thought the show was so cute especially around the holidays!

Another food favorite of mine this month has been a snack I’ve been eating lately. My hair stylist does a lot of cooking and she grows a lot of her own vegetables which she then cans and does different things with. She also makes a lot of jams. So when I see her to get my hair done around the holidays she always gives me a jar. I chose the lebanese fig jam that she made with some sort of nuts or something inside. I’ve been eating it with brie and melba toast. It’s so good all together!

Okay now for 2 more personal favorites of the month.

2020 has been a year of writing for me. It’s the year that I’ve finally started writing fiction after dreaming up story ideas for so long. I posted my first book, My Life Plan…Undone, on Wattpad in the spring. I’ve written a few other things since then. Most recently, the week of Christmas, I posted a short story revisiting the main characters from my first book. The story, My Christmas Plan…Undone, picks up 2.5 years after the end of my original story and follows the main characters on a weekend trip to New York City during the holidays.

Lastly, the day after Christmas I bought a new car! I’ve been thinking about getting a new car all year so this wasn’t impromptu. I finally decided to go to the dealership the day after Christmas and test drove the car I’d been planning to get. I’d had my beloved Jetta for 10 years so I wanted to trade it in while I could still get a decent amount for it. It was still in great shape, but I was ready for something new. I was able to get a limited edition car. I got the Mazda CX-5 Carbon Edition Turbo.

So despite all the bad of 2020, I’m glad that I’m ending the year with some good things!
