Writing Progress

I had planned to write this blog post for over a week and coincidentally I got some news yesterday that was perfect for today’s post. If you remember, a few weeks ago I shared with you guys about a fantasy short story I wrote for a contest. I just learned yesterday that I won! It was the best news to wake up to when I checked my phone. Contests like this may be small, but they definitely encourage me to keep going and that maybe I’m a better writer than I think.

Like I said, I had planned to write this post even before that exciting news. I wanted to share the progress I’ve made with writing projects this summer.

I had big writing plans for this summer, but things don’t always go as planned. I had family visiting immediately after my school year ended in late June and I also had the start of my health issue (my ear). So I didn’t start my writing projects right after work ended. Then, in July I continued to deal with my health issue and I was just not motivated to write. I had lots of ideas for my princess adventure comedy story I’m planning on writing but couldn’t bring myself to actually begin writing the story. I had ideas for a fun little YA story for Wattpad, but again, couldn’t sit and write.

The short story that I just became a winner for helped get me motivated again, but that was short lived. In late July, I decided the only way I was going to get motivated and inspired to write again was if I just did it. Just get back into a routine of writing. Whether what comes out is good or bad, just do it.

So with that being said, I started writing my YA story for Wattpad as a way to get back into the habit of writing before I tackle my princess project that I would like to one day query for publishing. The prologue and Ch. 1 of my new Wattpad story, I’m Still Here, went up last night.

Here’s the premise:

Caitlin Wu is a senior in high school. It's the final weeks of school and she's got a great boyfriend, a best friend, and a nice group of friends. While out with her friends on Cinco de Mayo, she falls down a flight of stairs, and ends up in the hospital in a coma. Guided by an angel, Caitlin spends the next few weeks having an out-of-body experience and learning more about her life, friends, and relationships than she ever could while conscious.

I’m having fun writing the story and I hope you’ll give it a read! I’ve written 10 chapters so far so being able to post a new chapter on Wattpad at least twice a week will keep me motivated to continue writing. I think once I’m on that roll, I’ll be ready to really work on my big project! Click here to check out the story.

By the way, I’m loving my new blue light glasses I bought from Quay Australia. They’re so stylish with the delicate gold frames and large lenses. They’re less clunky than my clear Amazon ones, though I still do love those.
