Aging gracefully just sounds like Botox, fillers, shakes, and surgeries, doesn’t it? These are technical components to extending youthfulness, that’s completely true but aging gracefully doesn’t need to be something just for the wealthy and privileged.  So what does aging gracefully even mean?

Our society is obsessed with youthfulness. If you look at a cover of a magazine, it will give you tips to look younger. If you look at skincare ads, they’ll guarantee youthful skin. Aging gracefully isn’t about trying to look like you’re in your 20 when you’re twice the age. It’s about enjoying yourself, enjoying who you are, and just taking care of yourself. Just like wine, you want to get better with age. These tips will help you out with aging gracefully.

Start with your skincare

It’s important to have a skincare routine, not just to look youthful, but to just protect your skin in general. Your skin is the largest organ of your body, so it should be treated with care. It’s the best look into:

  • Wearing sunscreen
  • Wearing protective clothing outside
  • Look into getting annual cancer screenings
  • Stay hydrated (with water)
  • Stick to a routine that’s gentle on your skin

This will not only help with having a youthful appearance, but this will help keep your skin healthy.

Check up on your teeth

It’s common to begin losing teeth as we age, it’s just something that occurs naturally. But you can extend the life of your teeth and prevent them from falling out by taking care of your teeth. Seeing a good and reliable dentist such as Genesis dental will help you out. You should watch what you eat, floss, and brush at least two times a day. Even look into avoiding foods that are known to stain teeth.

One thing you want to think about is your health as you age. This is going to include how active you are as well. Regular exercise is going to keep your body tone, but it’s also going to significantly lower the risk of heart disease and cancer. Another added benefit would be mobility, as regular exercise helps with pushing off arthritis and other joint problems a bit longer. Exercise is known for lowering stress, improving mental health, improving sleep, vision, digestion, processing information, mood, skin, and even bone health.

Exercise is one of the best medicines that your body needs. Do not neglect it, do not try and skip it! Just start easy before doing anything intense, so ideas can include:

  • Walking
  • Jogging
  • Light weight lifting
  • Swimming
  • Cycling
  • Hiking
  • Dancing

It’s best to just try and do things that you’ll enjoy, as this is going to be the best way to get into the habit of regular exercise.

Get enough sleep

Sleep is one of the most important things you can do for yourself when aging gracefully. While exercise is a very important component, so is sleep as this is going to greatly affect your physical and mental wellbeing.  It’s best to try to aim for seven to nine hours of sleep each night.

There are so many health benefits, and this is going to be one of the keys to graceful aging. Sleep affects the skin, and it’s also important how you sleep. Sleeping on your side is not only unhealthy, but it can affect your skin. Look into buying some pillows that help you sleep on your back.
