Improving the Air Quality in Your Home

Most people think the quality of the air they breathe inside their home is much better than the quality of the air they breathe outdoors, but actually home air quality can be as much as ten times worse than outdoor air!

If you’re shocked by that and you would like to ensure that the quality of the air you breathe in your own home is as good as possible. The good news is, there are lots of things you can do to improve it, including the following:

Open the windows

Unless you live in a really high pollution area, opening your windows as often as you can each day will help to improve the air quality in your home by ensuring that you can get a constant flow of fresh air through the space.

Clean your upholstery

Many people do not realize that the upholstery in their homes can trap huge amounts of dust and allergens, including pollen and pet hair, but it absolutely can. Luckily, regular upholstery cleaning, when carried out to a high standard, can remove much of these trapped pollutants so that you and your family can breathe more easily at home.

Use VOC-free paint

When the time comes to redecorate your home, instead of using regular paint. Look for eco-friendly VOC-free paints instead. These paints are every bit as good at decorating your home but they do not contain nasty chemicals known as volatile organic compounds, which can pollute the air and make it more difficult for you to breathe easy if you have asthma, for example.

Vacuum regularly

Dusting and vacuuming regularly are really important if you want to improve the quality of the air in your home because it will help to get rid of common pollutants and allergens like pet sander and dust mites, which can aggravate the lungs and make conditions like hayfever and asthma a lot worse.

Invest in an air purifier

Air purifiers are fantastic devices that will filter the air in your home, eliminating common pollutants from your space, and it is actually possible to buy them quite cheaply right now, so if you can invest in one for each floor of your home, you should soon start to notice a big difference in your home’s air quality.

Make your own cleaning products

Making your own natural cleaning products will help to minimize the number of potentially harmful chemicals that you and your family are exposed to in your home because many store-bought cleaning agents are not the best when it comes to nasty chemicals.

To make your own cleaning products, all you really need is white vinegar, lemon juice, and baking soda, which will do most of the jobs you need them to, but you can also use essential oils if you prefer to create scented cleaning products too.

If you put as many of these ideas as possible into action, you can absolutely improve the air quality in your home and breathe more easily always.
