Book Review: Fallen Stars

Last year I read Heavenly Bodies by Imani Erriu and loved it. I picked up the second book in the series when it released back in the fall, but naturally I haven’t gotten around to reading it until now. I brought Fallen Stars with me on my Disneyland trip but didn’t get much reading done except for on my flights. I just finished the book a few days ago!

I forgot a lot about what happens in book 1 before I started reading this, but luckily as I started reading it all started coming back to me. The novel begins shortly after the end of Heavenly Bodies. Elara and Enzo are finally together, but he has fallen into a sleep, trapped in a dream state between life and death. The novel follows Elara and their friends such as Leo, Merissa, and others to find a way to bring him back before he is lost forever. That means Elara may have to work with or make deals with enemies. And as if saving Enzo wasn’t enough, something is wrong with Elara too and growing worse. When she dreamwalks, she feels like something or someone is watching her, lurking in the shadows. And there are times when Elara goes into a trance or loses consciousness and when she comes to she is surrounded by disturbing and bad things she has done without knowing. Does she have the shadow sickness? They all have to work together, and maybe team up with people they didn’t think they would, to save Enzo, Elara, and get revenge on the stars that are out to get them all.

I loved this book and being reunited with all these great characters. Even the “bad” characters (except for the really bad ones) are more morally grey and entertaining to read about. I loved following along as they went on their journeys and adventures to try to solve their problems and save their loved ones. There were some bittersweet parts that had me a little sad, but I still loved it. I do like where the story ends in this book because I feel like the characters are really like this team now working together and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
