Photo Challenge: Unlikely
It’s finally Friday, everyone! This week has felt exceptionally long and yesterday was particularly stressful and crazy, but that’s for another day. Hopefully today will be a much calmer day at work and then I’ve got dinner plans and a bonfire at work/school so at least those are things to look forward to! If you had asked me a few years ago if I would ever watch a “movie under the stars” and it be broad daylight at 10pm, I would say that’s crazy – highly “Unlikely“. But, lo and behold, I was on an Alaskan cruise 2 summers ago and watched two or three movies under the stars on…

Smoked Salmon Spread
A student of mine was recently talking about how much she loved visiting Alaska on a vacation she went on last year and it reminded me of the trip I took to the beautiful state 2 years ago. Since I was reminiscing, I remembered I never shared a really easy and delicious snack courtesy of my trip to Alaska! If you followed my blog back 2 years ago, then you might remember I want on a land & cruise trip around Alaska. On one of the first days there, I went on a Riverboat trip. While on the boat, they had a few snacks made out of Captain Jim’s Smoked…

Photo Challenge: Elemental
Last week’s photo challenge from The Daily Post was “Elemental” and the example given was of the red rocks in Sedona, Arizona. It was a great example of the elements. I went to Sedona for vacation a few years ago, but I didn’t want to do the exact same thing as the example. So I thought about other landscape photos I had that were good examples of the earthly elements. I decided to go with this photo I took from outside my hotel at the Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge in Alaska last summer. There is such a great mix of different elements here. The wild flowers, earthy rocks, river, evergreen…

Photo Challenge: Heritage
When I saw last week’s photo challenge was “Heritage” I browsed through some of my travel photos because I knew I had to have something that would be good for the challenge. I decided to use this photo outside a replica of an Athabascan home with traditional dress hanging on the porch. I took this photo last summer while in Alaska. I’m fascinated by Native American culture and history so learning about natives in Alaska while I was there was really interesting to me. This photo was taken on a little excursion to Chena Village while I was in Fairbanks. You can read more about my day there in my…

Photo Challenge: The Road Taken
It’s Friday! If you follow my blog regularly then you might already know that I’ve been sick the past 2 days. Luckily I’m feeling better, but I’m still looking forward to the weekend so I can just rest up. But moving on to today’s post – last week’s photo challenge from The Daily Post was “The Road Taken“. For my photo response I’m using a photo from my vacation in Alaska last summer. I know, I use pictures from Alaska for a lot of these photo challenges! But, it’s so easy to do when you go somewhere with so much nature all around. This was on an excursion I took…

Photo Challenge: Solitude
Yesterday was a snow day and it was much needed. I needed that day to just relax and not have to do anything. And now we’re already at Friday! So The Daily Post changed their photo challenge day to Wednesdays – meaning they post a new challenge every Wednesday now instead of Friday. I always post my photo response on the last day of each weekly challenge because I like doing photo challenge Fridays on here and because it gives me a week to take a picture or find a picture in my archives. Wednesdays really throw me off! I’ve decided that I’m still going to post my pictures on Friday…

Photo Challenge: Quest
It’s finally Friday! This week has felt so long and it didn’t help the fact that by Wednesday I kept thinking it was Thursday and on Thursday I couldn’t believe I still had one more day until the weekend. I’m back this Friday with a new photo challenge response. This past week’s challenge was “Quest“. The most exciting thing I did this year, and I guess you could call it a quest, was take a helicopter ride to a glacier in Alaska. It was my first time ever on a helicopter and I was incredibly nervous. I mean even getting onto a helicopter is nerve wracking! I know the blades…

Photo Challenge: Mirror
We made it to Friday! This has felt like an incredibly long week, but we’re almost to the weekend. The past week’s photo challenge from The Daily Post was “Mirror“. I’ve always loved the nature photos you see of a cool reflection in a body of water. You know those pictures of a perfect mirror image of trees and/or clouds or what have you on a lake or some large body of water. When I was in Alaska in June/July I was on a riverboat ride down the Chena River. Of course, I took a lot of photos as evidenced by previous photo challenge responses and all my travel posts! When…

Photo Challenge: Rare
Today is my last [week] day of summer break before I go back to work. How is the summer over already?! I’m not ready! So on my last Friday of summer break, I have a photo from my summer vacation to Alaska to share for this week’s photo challenge. The challenge was “Rare” and I knew I wanted to share a shot of Mt. Denali. I had been trying to spot the ever elusive Mt. Denali for days, to no avail. It was always too cloudy to see one of the highest mountains in the world. But on my last night in the area (I would be leaving the next…

YouTube: Alaska Vacation Part 3
My 3rd and final YouTube video of my Alaskan vacation is now live! It’s been a few weeks since I’ve gotten home from vacation, but still I can’t believe we’ve now come to the end of my videos already! If you missed parts 1 and 2, you can find them here and here. This last video features highlights from days 9-12 of my trip. In this video you’ll see… we arrived in Juneau I took a helicopter ride to Mendenhall Glacier – my first time on a helicopter and on a glacier! Amazing experience. we arrived in Ketchikan and went on a boat ride and had a Dungeness Crab lunch at…
