Master The Art of Putting Yourself First

For all of your life you were taught to be selfless and treat others how you would want to be treated. Whilst there is nothing wrong with being a kind and compassionate person, you could be people pleasing way too much. You should never be ashamed of putting yourself first, especially in today’s society. There is so much pressure to be perfect, but you don’t need to conform to this way of thinking. Putting yourself first will not only boost your self confidence, but it will also give you the power to make yourself healthier and happier.

Your Body, Your Decision
If anybody ever tells you what you can or can’t do with your body it’s time to walk away. Whatever you eat, drink or consume is your business, so don’t allow anybody to dictate your decisions. Whether you’re considering tubal ligation or an alternative form of contraception, this is between you and your doctor. People will always have opinions about what you should do with your body, but you should never allow them to dictate your decisions.

 

You Can Say ‘No’
When your diary is full of events and catch ups with friends it is very easy to become overwhelmed. You can feel under a lot of pressure to say ‘yes’ to everything and anything that comes your way. However, you need to pick and choose your social schedule carefully. If you are burning the candle at both ends and trying to please everybody, you are never going to have time for yourself. Learn to say ‘no’ from time to time and you will feel a huge sense of release.

 

Travel, Enjoy Your Career and Love Your Family
Some of the most simple things in your life can often be put on the backburner without you even realizing. You need to invest in the things that truly matter to you such as travel, your career and your family. When you have a life full of rich experiences in these areas you will feel a huge sense of accomplishment. Putting yourself first is all about dedicating time to the things and people who make you happy.

 

Mental Health Matters
When it comes to adopting a healthier lifestyle, your mental health plays a huge role in this. If you aren’t feeling fully secure in your own mind you can very easily be led down the wrong path. Spend time focusing on your thoughts and being grateful for the people around you. If you ever feel sad, overwhelmed or anxious there are always people you can talk to, from friends to registered psychotherapists.

So consider the following changes in your life and you will soon master the art of putting yourself first. This doesn’t mean that you are neglecting the important people in your life; it simply means you are taking time to focus on your needs. Health and happiness can be achieved as soon as you learn to please yourself first.
