New Orleans BBQ Shrimp

Have you ever been to New Orleans? I have been there once, years ago, shortly after college. I went there for a few days during spring break with one of my good friends. She was teaching elementary school and I was substitute teaching at the time so we went during spring break. It was a good time, sightseeing and relaxing. Unfortunately, my friend has since passed away and I have written about that here and there over the years, but I will always remember our trip and all the laughs we had.

So when I was in New Orleans I actually didn’t eat a ton of seafood, which is surprising because they serve so much seafood there! I do love seafood, but the reason I didn’t eat a lot of it is because my friend was a very picky eater and didn’t like seafood so we didn’t go to any oyster places or places that had heavy seafood menus.

Anyway, I found this New Orleans BBQ Shrimp recipe on Pinterest last year and it is so good! It’s got that hot and sour kind of taste to it. I love shrimp and the sauce is fantastic. I followed this recipe and the only thing I changed was that I didn’t add in the extra butter at the end of the recipe.

For the recipe you’ll need:

  • butter
  • garlic
  • hot sauce
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • beer, wine, or broth (I used wine)
  • lemon juice
  • creole seasoning
  • black pepper
  • shrimp

I always use frozen shrimp when I cook shrimp. I get a big bag from Wegman’s and about an hour before I’m cooking, I’ll just take however many shrimp I need out of the bag and put it in a bowl with cold water and salt. Then, when I’m ready, the shells come off easily and I just rinse them with some more cold water.

First, I cut butter into chunks and melt it a pan. Add in the garlic, and sauté until fragrant. Then, add in the hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, wine, lemon juice, creole seasoning, and pepper. Simmer until sauce is reduced.

Next, add in the shrimp and cook on both sides until cooked. That’s it! In the original recipe, you add more butter in and stir until the butter melts, but I skip the last step of butter because I don’t like it to be too buttery.

Serve with some bread for all that delicious sauce and a side of veggies and you’re good to go! So easy and delicious!
