Snickerdoodles + Hogwarts Plates
For Christmas I got these Hogwarts house plates. They’re so cute with their colors and house emblem designs. Originally, I wanted to make a Harry Potter recipe to show off these plates, like a treacle tart or something like that, but I changed my mind and made snickerdoodles instead. I mean, snickerdoodle sounds like something they’d eat in Harry Potter anyway, don’t you think?
I used this recipe that I found via Pinterest and the cookies were delicious. I follow the recipe, but I cut down on the sugar. I believe the recipe calls for 1.5 cups and I just used a little over 1 cup.
For this recipe you’ll need:
- all purpose flour
- cream of tartar
- baking soda
- salt
- unsalted butter
- sugar
- eggs
- vanilla extract
- cinnamon
Combine the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. In a mixing bowl mix the butter and sugar and cream them together. Then, add one egg at a time. When combined, add in the vanilla extract and mix. Next, add in the dry ingredients. Mix until combined.
In a small bowl mix together sugar and cinnamon. Roll a tablespoon size of dough into balls, roll the balls in the sugar cinnamon mix, and then place on a baking sheet. Bake at 400 for about 6-8 minutes.
My snickerdoodles tend to puff up and become dome-like instead of being flatter like they’re typically seen. I’m not sure why. I even press the balls down before putting them in the oven, but they still puff up. It doesn’t really bother me though because they still taste so good!

The cookies are so good with their cinnamon flavor. They’re not too sweet since I cut down on the sugar. I brought some of the cookies to work last week and everyone loved them. I let a few students have some and I even had a student email me asking for the recipe, so it’s safe to say that if you make these they will be a hit!
