How to Prioritize Health in a Not-So-Healthy Lifestyle

There’s a lot of content out there that makes it sound like we’re the ones who have full and total control of our lifestyle. When it comes to taking charge of your health, sure, there is the idea that you all have full control. But is that true? Well, to a degree, not 100%. Sure, there are some people who have total and full control, but it’s not like that for everyone.

What if you have to eat what others make for you? What if you’re constantly busy with your job to the point you literally don’t have the opportunity to get enough sleep or exercise? There are aspects like that, so while everyone should try their hardest to have a healthy lifestyle, not everyone is going to have the privilege to even do such a thing. However, with that said, if you have a not-so-healthy lifestyle, what can you do?

Practice Moderation, Not Deprivation

When it comes to managing a not-so-healthy lifestyle, the key is moderation rather than deprivation. Unfortunately, when it comes to dieting and eating healthy, this doesn’t seem to get pushed enough. It’s more of a mental challenge than anything else. So, instead of cutting out all indulgences cold turkey, allow yourself to enjoy your favorite treats and guilty pleasures in moderation.

Seriously, you’ll have to set boundaries and limits for yourself, such as indulging in dessert only on weekends or enjoying a glass of wine with dinner occasionally while focusing on making healthier choices the majority of the time. The same can be said for milestones or even going out to eat with friends; just keep these in mind!

Are You Practicing Stress Management? How About Self-Care?

Not everyone has the luxury to take daily bubble baths or meditate. But even if that’s the case, managing stress and prioritizing self-care are essential components. You, hands down, absolutely need to do these in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This is especially true when it comes to navigating the challenges of a not-so-healthy lifestyle.

Do you have a healthy way to cope with stress? Some people eat, smoke, or drink, and all of these are horrible and super unhealthy ways to go about it. So, instead, finding healing was either practicing mindfulness meditation, deep breathing exercises, or spending time in nature.

See a Health Professional Regularly

Believe it or not, a lot of people intentionally skip out on seeing a doctor regularly. They don’t schedule appointments for checkups, and if they have appointments, like at their local infusion center for treatment, they might just full-on skip those. So, if you really want to make a difference in your health, you simply can’t do this. You need checkups with your GP, dentist, eye doctor, etc. You can’t skip appointments because you feel as if they’re not needed; none of these can be done.

Try and Stay Active Whenever You Can

Like it or not, you’ll need physical activity! Regular physical activity is essential for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and offsetting the effects of not-so-healthy habits. So, you’ll absolutely need to make time for exercise and incorporate physical activity into your daily routine. It’s really up to you how you do it, like walking or something heavy like aerobics, but you just need to get moving.
