Lunch at Din Tai Fung

During my day out in the city last week my cousin and I ate lunch at Din Tai Fung. This wasn’t my first time at the restaurant. I first went a few years ago in Seattle and then when this one opened in New York City, I went last fall. Reservations open up 30 days in advance so I got a reservation as soon as I could and had no problems. We arrived 30 minutes earlier than the reservation because we didn’t spend as much time at FAO Schwarz as we thought we would and they were able to seat us early. Despite it being barely 11am, the restaurant was already pretty full!

We ordered the cucumber salad, pork soup dumplings, string beans with garlic, shrimp spicy wontons, chicken fried rice, and for dessert we got the chocolate filled dumplings with the sea salt cream.

Before going in to the city we had planned to record clips for that trend on social media where you ask something like “Want to get a coffee?” and you take turns in different spots shrugging along the way to some iconic spot for coffee like at the airpot, on the plane, sightseeing, and then at a sidewalk cafe in Italy or something like that. We decided to do it with the question “Want to get dumplings?” and took video clips of my cousin with her luggage when she got in to town and then at the different spots we went to around the city that day and ended the video with our Din Tai Fung soup dumplings (with some editing magic since we went to the restaurant early on in the day).

Lunch was delicious and we had a good time!
