Photo Challenge: Achievement

There are all different kinds of achievement. Whether it’s completing your checklist at work or climbing to the top of a mountain – achievements can be small or grand. Either way, there’s a feeling of accomplishment, happiness and satisfaction inside. For The Daily Post’s “Achievement” photo challenge, I decided to do a Flashback Friday. Back in 2007, a few friends and I went to visit a friend who was studying abroad in London. We planned a day trip to Paris by train. A little crazy to go for just a day, now that I look back on it, but we managed to see the major sites and had a good time. I had been to Paris before so I didn’t feel like I was missing out by only seeing the major tourist attractions. I’m using these pictures as my take on “achievement” because of all the things I went through that day!

One of the things we all decided we really wanted to see was Sacre Coeur. Soooo we had a map of Paris, but no real idea of how to actually get anywhere. With my limitedĀ French speaking skills, a few maps, and asking plenty of strangers we managed to find all the places we wanted. Sacre Coeur proved the hardest to get to for us. I don’t remember all the details because it was over 7 years ago, but I remember being able to find the general area just by using the map and then some people we asked weren’t really sure of directions, etc. We finally got onto the path to walk up there. Sacre Coeur is above the city so we had to walk up lots of steps and uphill. I remember it being pretty tiring!

I consider it an achievement that we were able to find our way around the city and specifically to Sacre Coeur all in a day and make it back to London with no mishaps. I consider it an achievement that after walking around all day we were able to walk uphill and up all these steps without giving up. To top it all off, I had a fever on this day!!! So I definitely consider it an achievement that I was able to travel from London to Paris, go to Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, walk up to Sacre Coeur, eat at an outdoor cafe, and find my way around the city with my friends all while battling a fever. I was able to keep going because I was so excited, had Advil and took advantage of hot beverages at the cafes. Needless to say when I got back to my hotel room in London, I took more Advil and knocked out.

I know this is more than one picture so it’s not really a “photo” for the challenge, but I couldn’t resist sharing more than one!
