Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush

With all the crazy stuff going on in the world, I want to try to keep today’s post light-hearted. But first I do want to begin today’s post by sending my thoughts and prayers to the people of France, especially my readers from France. I decided to stick with my plan of writing a beauty post for today to keep this space positive and light.

I’ve been hearing about how amazing Hourglass’ Ambient Lighting Blushes and other face products are for a year or two now – basically as soon as they hit the shelves. Back in the spring, I bought my best friend a blush from the brand for her birthday because of the rave reviews. After she told me she really liked it, I decided to treat myself with one. I chose the shade “Luminous Flush” which is described as a champagne rose.

The first thing that drew me to these blushes is the absolutely beautiful swirl of colors. Here’s how the company describes these ambient lighting blushes:

Each handmade blush is formulated using an advanced miscelare technique to create the perfect balance of pigment and powder, and no two look alike.

Luminous Flush has a beautiful peachy pink shade swirled with a yellowish, orange shade. It translates to a beautiful light pink/ healthy rosy glow to the cheeks. It blends like a dream and as you can see is very pigmented. Don’t be afraid though – it doesn’t come up that bright on the cheeks unless you build it up! I must say, it does look like a natural shade to the cheeks and not a heavily made up look which works for me since I always strive for a more natural look.

My only bone to pick with this blush is the packaging. When you see this packaging it looks very high quality and sleek with its mirrored packaging. Let’s set aside the fact that the mirrored packaging lends itself to getting fingerprints all over it all the time. Sure, that’s a pain, but not a deal breaker. My issue is that it’s very lightweight and while I don’t necessarily want it to be a heavy, clunky product, I did expect it to have a little more weight to it because I associate that with a sign of the quality. This compact is so light, in fact, that it almost makes it seem cheap and at the price tag for this blush believe me it was not cheap. Now, I do not mind spending money on beauty products or splurging every once in a while, but I do mind spending a higher price tag when the quality of the product and/or the packaging doesn’t reflect that price.

To sum it all up, I’m very split on this product. The product itself is gorgeous and I do love it, but I would really love it if Hourglass would bump up the quality of their packaging! At $35 I don’t want packaging that feels like light plastic and I think a lot of people would agree with me. But again, the product within the packaging is top notch so let’s end on that high note!
