Met Gala 2017

The Met Gala red carpet is always fun to watch because the fashion is so different than award show red carpets. The Met Gala is a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Since it is for the Costume Institute, there is always a theme every year for both the gala itself and the Costume Exhibit at the museum and the red carpet tends to be more artistic to fit the theme. This year’s theme was Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons.

Now, while the looks tend to be a bit more avant garde my personal style is more classic, so anything too out there is not really my thing. With that in mind, I’ve picked out some of my favorite looks from the night!

Blake Lively

I was on the fence about this dress Blake Lively wore. Don’t get me wrong, I love the gold and it fits her perfectly, but I’ve seen Blake wear almost the same thing before so it’s nothing new. What sold me on it were the gorgeous blue feathers at the bottom. So different and fun and I love the different shades of blue.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Tracee Ellis Ross looks so fashionable in this beautiful blue dress (coat?) ensemble. This would probably be as high fashion/avant garde as I would personally get!

Miranda Kerr
I love the structure of Miranda Kerr’s gown! It’s so classic but the way it flares out and stays out there gives a futuristic feel to it.

Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez looks sensational in this soft blue, flowy gown. The cape design and her hair gives me 60s vibes and I’m loving it.

Haley Bennett

The large flowers/headpiece in Haley Bennett’s hair are what drew me to this whole look. It’s so fun and she made the whole look just work!

Felicty Jones
Felicity Jones looks demure in this periwinkle ruffled, sheer number. It’s on the safer side, but I love the ruffles.

Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez looks beautiful in this white gown with plunging neckline, high front slit, and embellishments. The look was simple yet sexy.

Rose Byrne
Rose Byrne looks absolutely incredible in this red gown with serious cutouts and plunging neckline. The tulle skirt is fun and a sharp (but nice) contrast to the top half.

Kylie Jenner

Lastly, I absolutely loved Kylie Jenner in this rose gold sheer gown with appliques, embellishments, and fringe sleeves. I’m not a big Kylie fan – I think she’s overrated – but she killed it in this gown and I love love love it. I love the whole look so much that I even am on board with the platinum blonde wig here! My favorite look of the night for sure!

What were some looks you liked from the event?
