Copycat Pizza Hut Breadsticks
When I was in elementary school, Pizza Hut used to do this thing called “Book It” – I think that’s what it was called anyway. You had a chart to record your daily reading amounts and when you completed the chart you could bring it in to Pizza Hut for a free personal pan pizza. It was my favorite thing! So aside from the delicious supreme personal pan pizza I would get, my family would always get an order of the breadsticks. I love the Pizza Hut breadsticks.
I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I’ve been to Pizza Hut in the last 5 years on one hand and still have fingers left over. So last year when I saw this copycat recipe , I had to make it. Now I only used the recipe for the toppings to get that Pizza Hut breadstick taste. I didn’t make my breadsticks from scratch. I had hot dog rolls left over and I saw on Pinterest that you can use leftover hotdog rolls to make breadsticks so that’s what I did and they turned out SO well that I’ve been making these Pizza Hut breadsticks with extra hot dog rolls since then.
If you want to know the entire recipe (you’re going to make the breadsticks from scratch, seasoning, and dipping sauce) then click on the link above for the original recipe. Since I only made the seasoning, that’s what I’m including here.
For the seasoning you’ll need:
- grated parmesan cheese
- onion poweder
- dried oregano
- garlic powder
- dried basil
- salt
- unsalted butter
For the amounts – I just eyeball them to make enough for the amount of breadsticks I have.
So first, I melt some butter on the stove. While it’s melting, I separate the hotdog buns to separate the halves. Brush the buns with butter and then top them with your seasoning concoction. Then, I put them in the oven at 400 until the breadsticks started to brown, crisp up.
These are so good! Obviously, if you are making these from scratch then you’ll do things a bit differently than I did, but if you’ve got leftover hot dog buns, which seems to always happen, then this is a great way to use them up!
I’m planning to make these next week! Let me know if you try them!
