A few months ago during one of Francesca’s ridiculously good sales, I picked up blue velvet bow slip ons. I had been wanting bow slip ons and when I saw that these velvet ones were on sale I couldn’t pass them up. So when I was picking out an outfit last month for my friend’s daughter’s first birthday party I decided I wanted to wear those slip ons with a blue velvet top. I apparently could not get enough of blue that day because I wore the blue velvet top with double ruffle cap sleeves, a blue cocktail ring, and my blue Longchamp bag.
Top: Bungalow 20 | Pants: Uniqlo | Shoes: Francesca’s (here) | Ring: Express | Bag: Longchamp | Sunglasses: Quay Australia
I love the double ruffle detail on the sleeve of this top. It’s so pretty and the extra volume helps the ruffles stand out more instead of falling flat and being more of a fluttery look rather than a ruffled look.
I decided not to wear a necklace with this top, even though I think a short necklace would look lovely against the blue velvet, because I wanted to keep it more low key for the lunch party. And I thought the rectangular shaped cocktail ring was more than enough jewelry for the occasion.
Since I wasn’t sure how people would dress for the birthday party I thought this outfit was pretty safe. It was a birthday party for a 1 year old during the daytime so I was thinking casual, but it was also being held in a private room at an Italian restaurant so then I thought it might be a little more dressy. In the end, I think I was dressed just right for the occasion and I got to wear lots of blue and velvet so it was a win-win!
