Throwback Thursday: Romeo + Juliet
I can’t believe that Romeo + Juliet came out in theaters 18 years ago. I hadn’t seen this movie in a long time until this week. My 9th graders finished reading the play last week and I told them we could watch the movie this week (our last week of school).
I gave the students the option of watching this Leonardo DiCaprio version or the Zeffirelli version from 1968. Pretty much all the girls wanted to see Leo and couldn’t stop talking about how cute he is. I think it’s so funny to think about how these 14-15 year old girls think Leonardo DiCaprio is so cute and they weren’t even born yet when this movie came out! The movie came out in 1996 – a year before Titanic and I’m totally guilty of having a celebrity crush on him at the time. I had Romeo + Juliet on tape, saw Titanic multiple times in the theater with my fellow 6th grade friends, watched Growing Pains reruns where he played the adorable Luke and so on.
Here’s the trailer if you want to remind yourself of this throwback goodness.
Also, can we talk about how cute this hairstyle is? This is from the scene in the movie when they’re at the costume ball. Juliet (Claire Danes) is an angel and the hair stylist made a halo out of Juliet’s hair. So creative!

Okay, favorite movie ever. People don’t even understand how obsessed I am with this movie.

I hadn’t seen it in so long that I forgot how great it is!

My favorite scene is the pool scene with Des’ree’s ‘Kissing You’ song in the background. Amazing.
