Cross Front Top

You know how sometimes you buy a piece of clothing that looks better on the hanger than it does on you? Sometimes it’s a disappointment and you don’t buy it or keep it and other times we (or at least I) just like the item sooo much that you can’t seem to part with it and you try to make it work. Every once in a while though, you come across something that actually looks even better on you than on the hanger! I’m happy to report that the top below is one of those!

So a couple of weeks ago I was at Old Navy. Old Navy is one of those hit or miss stores for me, but I saw they were having a sale so I decided I’d go take a look. What drew me to this top was the color. It hung on the hanger and looked drapey/loose and I thought it would probably go nice with dress pants for work. I don’t remember how much I spent on it, but it wasn’t much which is what helped me decide to get it since I liked it but wasn’t necessarily “wowed” by it. I also didn’t try it on, because I really have to be in the mood to try things on.

I wore it this past week and as soon as I put it on, I was immediately pleased. This cross front top doesn’t tie, but is instead stitched at the bottom. The fit was perfect. The way it crossed over and formed it’s own pleats was great. On the hanger, it seemed like it would have a more drape-y effect, but to my surprise it provided a more fitted silhouette. Not fitted to the point where it’s tight and uncomfortable, but an attractive and well-cut effect.

The pants are also new – I think they are the Columnist cut at Express. I love that they have that tweed-like look but are not tweed so they aren’t heavy or too warm. It’s also a nice change from the regular black, grey, brown, etc.

I really like all the colors together and am happy that I decided to pair the top with a colored tank top instead of white to make it extra bright. It kinda makes me think of peacock colors. Just me? Anyway, the bright colors were nice since it was a miserable, chilly, rainy day that entire day, hence spots on my shoes in the below picture since I had just come in from the rain.
